The Journey Begins…

Good day everyone!

The O’Keeffe Art and Leadership Program for Boys have officially started! While I’ve been doing this for the past three years, I’m still going in with a fresh clean slate to learn. When you see the boys walk through the art college building for the first time, you have a mindset of what these boys will bring to the table, and what art styles they possess (I should know…I was one of them!). The other interns I’ve meet are amazing, and I’m honored to be working with them this summer. We hope the boys will learn from us about art and leadership, along with us learning from them too!! I just hope there’s coffee at the next intern meeting…

UPDATE: The first week of new boys was a success! Our featured artist/visitors included Joel Nakamura (the canvas master) and Akeem (Drum specialist). Joel taught the boys about the style of Japanese ink art, while Akeem showed them a thing or two about playing African drums (Funga Alafia!). Next week will be off the Ghost Ranch, and I’m excited to see what the boys come up with next! Let’s just hope they bring enough bug spray…

Looking forward to a great summer!
