New Photography Acquisitions in the Archives

The Georgia O’Keeffe Museum recently opened the exhibition, New Photography Acquisitions, featuring photographs of Georgia O’Keeffe and her surroundings purchased in 2013. One of the most photographed women of the twentieth century, the exhibition highlights prints by well-known photographers such as Ansel Adams, Philippe Halsman, Arnold New man, Alfred Stieglitz, and Todd Webb.

In addition to the fine art prints, twice as many items were added to the archives from the acquisition including documentary photographs, copy prints, contact sheets, correspondence, ephemera, and clippings. The new acquisitions complement the photographs and archival material already held by the museum. As a whole, they not only form a valuable record of O’Keeffe’s relationship with the camera, but they also document O’Keeffe’s amazing life in art.

Below are a few gems that were added to the archives from the recent acquisition.

The photographs will be on view at the Museum until September. However, you can access the photographs in the archives year-round by appointment at the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum Research Center. There is also an online guide to the new collection of photographs in the archives here.
